Textured Fade Haircut

Classic Low Maintenance Practical

The textured fade haircut features longer hair on top with shorter hair on the back and sides that gradually decreases in length until it seamlessly “fades” into the skin. The hair on top is cut in a way that creates a more piecey, textured look. The length of the sides can vary, and it is typically indicated by the clipper “guard number,” which ranges between 1 (the shortest guard length at 1/8 of an inch) through 8 (longest guard length at 1 inch).

Start with dry or damp hair. Brush through hair with a pick to detangle. For tighter curls, apply a gel, curl enhancing cream or serum and scrunch or twist into hair.

Apply a gel evenly to damp hair. Using a medium heat setting, blow dry the hair, using the air flow to direct hair to the side for a side-swept look. If desired, finish their look with a little bit of pomade or an extra bit of gel for all-day hold.

What to tell your stylist

Love this haircut? Here's what to tell your stylist so you can get this look.

“I’d like a textured fade haircut. I’d like to leave the top long enough so that it will stand up on top, then gradually fade down through the back and sides. I’d like the top to be textured. I’d also like to clean up the back of the neck so his hair is even across the back.”

If you're unsure about how short to go, especially on the sides and back, ask your stylist to recommend the best clipper setting that will suit your child’s hair type and face shape.

Don't forget to save or screenshot these textured fade style notes to show your stylist during your appointment. This will help ensure they understand the style you and your child are aiming for!
