Curly Fade

Classic Low Maintenance Timeless

The curly fade haircut features longer hair on top with shorter hair on the back and sides that gradually decreases in length until it seamlessly “fades” into the skin. With this type of fade, the blending between the top and the clippered sides and back occurs at the round of the head, just above the ears. The length of the sides can vary, and it is typically indicated by the clipper “guard number,” which ranges between 1 (the shortest guard length at 1/8 of an inch) through 8 (longest guard length at 1 inch). Fade haircuts are great for both textured and non-textured hair.

Towel dry hair. Spray a detangler, and use a comb to remove any tangles. Add a curl taming cream or mousse specifically for curly hair. Wind curls around fingers for added definition. Let hair air dry, or use a blow dryer and diffuser while scrunching hair for faster drying and tighter curls.

What to tell your stylist

Love this haircut? Here's what to tell your stylist so you can get this look.

“I’d like a fade haircut. I’d like to leave the top long enough that you can see the curls, then gradually fade down through the back and sides. I’d like to clean up the back of the neck so his hair is even across the back.”

If you're uncertain about how short to go with the fade or what clipper settings to use, don't hesitate to ask your stylist for advice on what would best suit your child's hair type and curl pattern.

Be sure to save or take a screenshot of the style notes for a curly fade haircut to show your stylist, so they have a clear reference for the exact style you're aiming for. This will help ensure your child gets a fade haircut that looks great and is easy to manage.
